MEET STEVE

Steve Hisker attended the University of South Carolina where he graduated cum laude with a bachelors of science degree from the College of Criminal Justice.  During college, Steve was appointed as a page in the South Carolina House of Representatives.  Upon graduation, Steve immediately enrolled in the University of South Carolina School of Law.

While in law school, Steve was fortunate to earn one of only three clerkships working for famed criminal defense lawyer Jack Swerling.  After graduating from Law School, Steve was offered a permanent position as Swerling’s associate. This position gave Steve experience preparing hundreds of cases including numerous murder trials and other high profile cases.

In 2005, Steve Hisker started his own law office located in Columbia’s historic district.   Steve has been a successful and respected lawyer in the criminal courts of Richland, Lexington and Kershaw counties.  Steve Hisker is frequently appointed by the court to represent indigent defendants who have complicated and serious cases such as armed robbery, kidnapping and murder.

Mr. Hisker has an active practice in Federal Court as well.  Steve Hisker served as an attorney in the longest criminal trial in South Carolina and was one of the attorneys appointed in South Carolina’s first federal death penalty trial.  Steve Hisker has been approved by a panel of judges and lawyers to represent people in Federal Criminal Justice Act appointments.  In March of 2006, the Honorable Joseph F. Anderson, Jr., Chief Judge of the United States District Court, gave Steve an award for trial advocacy skills after a week long drug conspiracy trial.

In 2006, Steve Hisker expanded his firm by opening an upstate office located just between Greenville and Spartanburg.  The upstate office is located just one block from James F. Byrnes High School, where Steve started and coaches the Byrnes Rebels Mock Trial Team.

Steve Hisker is licensed to practice in all South Carolina courts, United States District Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.  Steve is a member of the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Steve loves spending time with his family and enjoys coaching youth soccer, baseball and football.  Steve also loves to snow ski and collect electronics.
